Selling a used GoPro, DJI or Insta360 in Bangkok

Five things to do before you sell

1. Look at the battery

Batteries that have been cooked on a dashboard or left flat for months can swell. If a battery looks puffy or no longer slides in and out easily, stop using it and tell us about it when you ask for a price. Do not force it.

2. Work out whether it is the lens or the lens cover

On many recent action cameras the glass in front of the lens is a separate, replaceable cover. A scratched cover is a much smaller problem than a scratched lens - check which one you have and say which it is. On 360 cameras like the Insta360 X series, both lenses stick out and scratch easily, so look at each one closely.

3. On a Pocket 3, check the gimbal

Switch it on and let it start up. The gimbal should move and settle smoothly without grinding, shaking or an error on the screen.

4. Rinse off salt and sand

If it has been in the sea, rinse it in fresh water (only if it is sealed and waterproof as it is) and let it dry fully with the doors open. Salt left in the door seals and ports is one of the things that shows up at a check.

5. Unpair it and remove your account

Remove the camera from GoPro Quik, DJI Mimo or the Insta360 app, switch off any automatic cloud upload, forget it in your phone's Bluetooth list, take out your memory card and run the factory reset. Full steps in how to reset and wipe your camera before you sell it.

Gather the extras

Mounts, spare batteries, the charger and cable, any housing or mod you bought, and the box. Extras help the price, and they are worth more with the camera than sitting in a drawer.
