Where to sell a used camera in Bangkok (2026)

If you have a camera sitting in a drawer, you have three realistic options in Bangkok: sell it yourself, sell it to a shop that buys used gear, or trade it in against something new. They are not equal, and the honest answer is that they suit different people.

1. Selling it yourself

Facebook buy-and-sell groups and Kaidee are where most private camera sales in Thailand happen. You keep the whole amount, so on paper this pays the most.

What it costs you instead: you write the listing, take the photos, answer the same five questions from ten people, and then meet a stranger. You also carry the risk. If the buyer says the sensor has a mark after they get home, that argument is yours. And a body that is not in demand can sit unsold for weeks.

Choose this if you are not in a hurry, you are comfortable meeting buyers, and the extra money matters more to you than the time.

2. Selling to a shop that buys used gear

A buying shop pays less than a private buyer, because the shop has to test the camera, clean it, guarantee it and then find its own buyer. That gap is the whole business - anyone who tells you otherwise is not being straight with you.

What you get for that gap: one conversation instead of ten, a price before you commit, no listing, and the money the same day. Nobody comes back to you afterwards.

Choose this if you want it finished this week, or you are leaving the country, or you simply do not want to deal with strangers.

3. Trading in against a new body

Some retailers take your old body against a new purchase. The number they offer usually looks lower than a cash sale, and it is only worth comparing once you know what the new body actually costs elsewhere - a generous trade-in on an expensive body is not generous.

Choose this only if you were buying that exact new camera anyway.

What to prepare, whichever route you take

• The shutter count, if your camera is a DSLR or a mirrorless body. Every serious buyer will ask. Here is how to read it.
• Honest photos - front, back, the screen switched on, the mount with the cap off, and any mark you know about. Hiding a scratch just means an argument later.
• Box, bill, charger, batteries, strap. None of them are required, all of them help.
• Your ID or passport. A shop that buys second-hand gear has to record who it bought from. If nobody asks you for ID, ask yourself why.

Before you hand anything over

Whichever route you pick, run the same short safety check: verify who you are dealing with, never send the camera before the money has arrived, and do the handover in one place at one time. We wrote that out properly in seven checks before you sell a camera in Thailand.

How it works with us
